Hurricane Katrina made landfall in New Orleans on August 29, 2005, causing widespread devastation and chaos in its wake. The storm not only wreaked havoc on the city itself but also affected the lives of its residents, including myself and my school life.

I remember the days leading up to the hurricane, the anxiety and fear that gripped the city as we prepared for the impending storm. Schools were closed, and students were sent home to shelter in place with their families. The howling wind and pounding rain were relentless as the hurricane made its way towards us, causing massive flooding and destruction in its path.

Once the storm had passed, the true extent of the damage became apparent. Many of my schoolmates and their families had lost their homes and belongings. Some were forced to evacuate the city and seek refuge elsewhere, while others stayed behind to rebuild their lives from the ruins left by the hurricane.

Our school itself was not spared from the effects of Hurricane Katrina. The building suffered severe damage, with roofs torn off and windows shattered. The classrooms were flooded, and textbooks and supplies were destroyed. It was a heartbreaking sight to see the place where we had spent so many formative years reduced to rubble.
